I never appreciated receiving unrequested marketing. Recently I noticed Bank of America’s logo appearing on my Quicken splash screen.

Thanks to this Quicken forum I was able to figure out how to remove it.

First I found the Quicken splash screen with Bank of America’s logo at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\06526\SPLASH.BMP.

Then I found this splash screen referenced in the init file C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\Config\QUICKEN.INI in the Splash entry of the MarketingMessages section.

I changed the Splash entry to be C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\Sku\Premier\Custom\splash.bmp. Fortunately that did the trick.

Overall I am quite happy with Quicken Premier 2007 which I got for free from a friend who works at Intuit. It has a nicer interface than Quicken Deluxe 2005, which I also got for free from another Intuit friend, and it allows me to download in the one step update from my Washington Mutual, ING Direct and Bank of America accounts. Previously I could only use web connect to download these transactions into Quicken. My life just got that much easier. :-)

Update 02-06-2010: Another Intuit friend gave me Quicken Premier 2010. It’s great but today I noticed an unappreciated Chase logo on my Quicken splash screen.  Fortunately these instructions were just as useful for removing the bank logo from Quicken 2010. :-)

I was an engineer on the Quicken team for 8.5 years. The splash screen changes when you enable online banking in Quicken. The mechanics of turning on online transaction download with a bank requires Quicken to get a “bank info kit” (where to connect, what’s supported, and branding info).

It’s not quite advertising, but I’m not sure you could call it anything else. “Branding Management” maybe?

You can also, replace the splash image with pictures of the kids.

Disclaimer: I still work for Inuit. This posting is completely my view, and doesn’t represent the views of Intuit.

Any idea of where I can remove the bank “Brand Marketing” from Quicken 2010 using Windows Vista? I don’t see the same “documents and settings” options already discussed.

Honestly I don’t know with Windows Vista. Maybe you can do a search for quicken.ini.

Removing the Bank Logo From the Quicken Splash Screen…

One of the peeves that I’ve developed for Quicken 2010 Premier is the Chase logo on its splash screen.

As I had previously written, I had a growing dislike of Chase. I never got a credit card from them, but they were the bank that acquired the ban…

I have Windows Vista and used the instructions above. The only exceptions were the locations of files and that I have CHASE bank. Here is how I did it.

First I found the Quicken splash screen with Chase logo at C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Quicken\10898\SPLASH.BMP

Then I found the CHASE splash screen referenced in the .ini file C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicken\QUICKEN.INI

I changed the Splash entry to C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicken\splash.bmp

Thanks Cacique for the Windows Vista instructions.

@seonhunh,

My apologies. I should have provided the steps I followed for my Windows Vista system, so here it goes. I hope it helps others.

These are the steps that I took to keep CHASE Bank from replacing my Quicken 2011 “Splash Logo” in my Windows Vista 64-bit system.

1. On my PC I found the original “splash” logo image in C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicken\splash.bmp

2. I located the CHASE BANK splash logos in C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Quicken\10898

3. I then located the QUICKEN.INI file in C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Quicken\Config

4. I double clicked the Quicken.ini file which opened in Notepad and scrolled down to the line that reads: Splash=C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Quicken\10898\SPLASH.BMP

5. I replaced everything after the SPLASH= with “C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicken\splash.bmp” without the quotations and saved the changes.

6. Now each time I launch Quicken it only opens the original “Splash” logo image as this is what is now referenced in the Quicken.ini file.

I have downloaded transactions from CHASE and it no longer “hijacks” the original Quicken splash screen.

I am using Quicken 2010 and had a Chase logo on my splash screen.

I found this splash screen referenced in the init file C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\Config\QUICKEN.INI in the

I changed the Splash script entry from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\10398\splash.bmp. to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\splash.bmp So all I did was remove the 5 numbers between Quicken and splash.bmp.

I saved the file and that did the job… No more Chase logo…
