Ruth 8

In the sermon, True Love Meets Needs, Pastor David Chae spoke about how Ruth had made herself available to Boaz. Then he spoke about how the single women, when they’re ready, should signal their availability to the single men. The analogy he used was the taxis with the blue lights, when you see the blue lights then you know the taxi is available. What’s funny is that Pastor David Swaim of Highrock, in a sermon on dating and relationships, used exactly the same analogy.

The prosperity gospel is attractive, alluring, desirable. Though I know that it is wrong I accept some of it but I am not sure how much of it to accept.

John Piper comes out here in this sermon and just smashes it. I love what he said.

God is most glorified in you when you are most satisfied in him in the midst of loss, not prosperity.

Thanks to pilgrimmarch for pointing me to this in his blog post, Against the Prosperity Gospel.

Christian, do you pee sitting down?

 | February 11, 2008 3:58 PM

I saw this article on my friend’s blog, pilgrimmarch’s Xanga Site – Weblog – Christian, do you pee sitting down?

This is the YouTube video of a Baptist minister preaching about men peeing sitting down.

There are six verses in the Old Testament that use the term “pisseth against the wall.” It is used to represent men and this term is not used in NIV and other modern editions.

This preacher is angry that men are not peeing standing up. He believes it’s Biblical and emasculating if you don’t. I guess he’d be mad at me because sometimes I sit when I pee like when I’m tired or when I want to be quiet. :-)

You know, there is so much brokenness in this world and of all the things to be angry and passionate about, this preacher is angry about men peeing sitting down.

Holy Spirit – More than a side kick

 | February 10, 2008 1:35 PM

This morning at GrX Pastor Dave began a sermon series on the Holy Spirit.  The first sermon was entitled “Holy Spirit – More than a side kick.”   The scripture passages were John 14:15-21 and Ephesians 5:18-21.

Near the very end of the sermon he gave these three points for how to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

  1. Worship & Praise God
  2. Gratitude
  3. Give fame to God

At the end of the sermon he encouraged people to worship louder.  I distinctly noticed afterwards that people were singing louder.
